Minority Business Resources

The Milwaukee Region offers both private- and public-sector opportunities for minority-owned businesses. Many of the region’s largest employers have extensive minority supplier programs. Johnson Controls is one of only 18 companies in the world that belong to the Billion-Dollar Roundtable, a group of companies that spend more than $1 billion annually with firms owned, operated and controlled by minorities and women. Another member of the roundtable – AT&T – has major operations in the area.

The Business Council, an affiliate of the Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce, works with area businesses to facilitate the growth of Black-owned and other minority businesses. Its minority supplier diversity module connects corporations with minority-owned suppliers.

The State of Wisconsin offers a variety of programs designed to assist minority and women-owned businesses. These include financial consulting, business development assistance, minority certification programs (for public contracts) and a directory of minority-owned firms.
